Practised in some municipalities, civil or republican baptism has no official status.
Republican baptism is a secular act traditionally practised at the town hall. Having no legal significance, it is not mandatory for the City of practise and is not registered in any official document. The undertaking by the godfather and godmother with respect to the parents and the child remains symbolic and moral.
