It figures on the frontispiece of the “Livre des privilèges et libertés de la ville de Manosque”, (book of privileges and freedoms of the town of Manosque) printed in Lyon by Jean Broto in September 1559.
The 4 hands have several versions. Here are three of them:
– Canting arms (manus – main – manuasca) in the Middle Ages.
– The town had 4 gates, 4 quarters, 4 churches
– The grouping together of 4 villages around Manosque (Toutes Aures, Saint Pierre, Mayme, Montaigut) which were abandoned around XVth century.
